Pile testing and analysis

We are a Philippine-based geotechnical engineering company that specializes in pile and deep foundation testing and analysis. We are led by Dr. Benjamin Buensuceso Jr., Geotechnical Engineering Specialist, and Benjamin Buensuceso III, RCE (Master Rank in the PDCA and PDI PDA Proficiency Exam).

Extensive experience

Senior leadership has over 30 years of pile testing and geotechnical engineering experience in the Philippines and around Asia.

Top talent and professional development

All of our engineers are licensed civil engineers from top universities in the Philippines.

State-of-the-art practice

Hosts of the first ever PDI PDA Testing Seminar in the Philippines. Peer-reviewed authors on pile testing and analysis.

Wide project portfolio

We have worked on everything from highways, railways, sewage plants, high-rises and warehouses.

High-strain Dynamic Load Testing (PDA)

Also called PDA tests, these estimate the static capacity, load-settlement behavior, pile stresses, and structural integrity of all types of deep pile foundations (driven, jacked, bored piles, etc). These are conducted and monitored by a team of our highly experienced pile testing and civil engineers. These are done with the Pile Driving Analyzer of Pile Dynamics, Inc. We guarantee our tests include:

  • Geotechnically credible CAPWAP signal matching analysis solution;
  • Interpretation of CAPWAP results on the acceptability of piles;
  • Use of our extensive history of testing in evaluating piles.

Low-strain Pile Integrity Testing (PIT)

The Low-strain Pile Integrity Test, also called the PIT Test, is a quick and cost-effective method to evaluate the shaft integrity of concrete piles. Testing is done with the Pile Integrity Tester of Pile Dynamics, Inc. The test can determine pile continuity, the location of possible defects, and consistency of the concrete. It is performed by affixing an accelerometer to the pile top and striking the pile with an instrumented hand-held hammer.

  • Requires minimal preparation; quick and inexpensive.
  • Can be done on a large number of piles at a project.
  • Can evaluate the length and quality of existing foundations.

Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL)

The Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) method is used to evaluate the quality of the concrete of deep foundations. Testing is performed with a Cross Hole Analyzer (CHAMP-Q) from Pile Dynamics, Inc. During the test a transmitter is lowered down one of the tubes and sends a high frequency signal to a receiver inserted in another tube. The transmitter and receiver move down each pair of tubes, scanning the entire length of the shaft for imperfections and voids in the concrete.

  • Relatively simple interpretation of defects.
  • Can be done on very long piles and diaphragm walls.
  • Determine extent and depth of anomalies.

Tomographic Analysis

Tomography or tomographic analysis is a mathematical procedure that is applied to CSL data that combines first arrival time (FAT) data from the scans of all pairs of CSL tubes to provide a 2D or 3D visual estimate to the extent of irregularities or defects. Specifically, it allows for the lateral and vertical extent of possible defects/flaws to be examined. This is done with the PDI-TOMO software from Pile Dynamics, Inc.

Compliments CSL testing.

Top force transducer rental (PDA)

The top force transducer method nearly eliminates concrete build up or excavation on concrete bored piles. We and our partners are the first in the Philippines to offer the rental of 24-ton and 40-ton capacity top force transducers for use in PDA tests. The use of the transducer significantly reduces material costs and improves the quality of data that can be obtained.

  • Minimize buildup and excavation.
  • Avoid pile top damage.
  • Material and excavation cost savings.

Independent Review of Pile Testing Results

We use our extensive background in pile testing to independently review and verify testing methodologies, data quality, analysis and interpretation of data, and recommendations. We provide guidance in designing pile integrity and load testing programs. Pile tests can be done to verify capacities or evaluate the integrity of production piles. However, these can also be used to reduce uncertainties at projects and allow for the use of lower safety factors (in ASD) or higher resistance factors (in LRFD). This ultimately results in less conservative pile designs (i.e., smaller and shorter piles) and cost savings at the project.
